At the last Board Meeting, Upper Canada District School Board Superintendent Deanna Perry reported that the local bus driver shortage is pretty much unchanged.
Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario (or STEO) reports that 27 routes across the board still don’t have permanent drivers.
Spare drivers, office and mechanical staff are filling in. There’s also route doubling and running routes late taking place to fill in the gaps.
Help is on the way though. Perry says 26 new drivers have received their licenses and permanent employment, 12 drivers are still waiting for their licenses, and 29 others are currently training.
