Chelsea Hillier has been given a conditional sentence of 75 days house arrest and nine months of probation after being found guilty of contempt of court last month.
The daughter of former controversial Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston MPP Randy Hillier, Chelsea made federal and provincial runs in the most recent elections and has faced legal trouble for social media posts regarding Carleton University instructor Esther Post.
Hillier was ordered to issue a contraction after not contesting a defamation lawsuit made by Post earlier this summer and was ordered to pay nearly $100,000 in damages.
Hillier issued the contraction nearly three months after it was ordered which led to the contempt of court conviction.
Justice Narissa Somji issued the sentencing in an Ottawa courtroom Monday morning.
Part of the conditions of sentencing is paying an additional $16,000 to Post, not being allowed to make any defamatory statements towards her, and complete community service.
