Several residents in Drummond/North Elmsley are opposing plans to put a private gun range where a range owned by the OPP’s range once stood.
The Township will talk about altering a bylaw to allow it in early December.
Nancy Chevrier is one of them. She’s concerned that multiple cracks of gunfire will be too much for the quiet way of life in the township.
There are also concerns about the environmental impact the range and things like spent cartridges could have on the land. The continuous gun play could also displace wildlife in the area.
Chevrier says she’s not alone, and those opposed to the range want to be heard.
She says there could be a compromise reached, like an indoor soundproof range. That would solve a lot of problems in her and the view of many others in the township.
Tomorrow we get the Township’s perspective on the situation.
The bylaw change will come to a vote in the first week of December.
