Over the past two days we’ve been talking about a planned private gun range for Drummond/North Elmsley just outside Perth.
There’s concern from residents about noise and the environmental impact, among other things.
Owner of the once-OPP-owned range, Martin Whyte, says hunting is a part of life in Lanark County as has been since people first settled here. He says the range is as much about safety as anything else.
As for the environmental aspect, Whyte says a report from the Ministry of the Environment has come back showing contaminants in the ground are well within safe limits.
One of the biggest concerns raised by neighbouring residents is the noise. Whyte says they’ve looked into it.
The township will speak about changing a bylaw that would rezone the land for the range in early December.
