We continue our look at each recommendation made by the Culleton, Kuzyk & Warmerdam inquest into intimate partner violence.
Today we look at no. 11 which speaks to the feasibility of justice sector participants having access to relevant findings made in family and civil law proceedings for use in criminal proceedings, including at bail and sentencing stages.
Interval House Executive Director Erin Lee says its about making sure criminal court proceedings have every last bit of pertinent information.
Lee says this isn’t something that hasn’t been discussed before.
She adds that when there are two court orders, whether they be from family, bail or criminal court, one could supersede another so communication between the courts is key when dealing with current IPV cases.
