Shane Sabourin has been sentenced to just over 11 years for killing Pat Lynch in Carleton Place on July 15, 2020.
Lynch’s family and friends were not pleased.
Sabourin was charged with first degree murder in the stabbing death of Lynch at a Carleton Place Motel. A deal was reached with the Crown, and he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of Manslaughter, much to the disdain of Lynch’s family and friends.
Included in the sentence, Sabourin can’t own any weapons for the rest of his life and his DNA will be placed in the provincial databank.
The statement of facts in the case says Lynch was stabbed 10 times, including in the head and chest.
Despite the objections of the family to the plea deal, the judge said it was his view that it was appropriate for the Crown to offer the deal. He added that he hopes the family understands that it was a reasonable step in the case.
