Lanark County has declared intimate partner violence an epidemic in the community.
County council made the declaration Wednesday night after hearing from Erin Lee, the Executive Director of Lanark County Interval House.
The 86 recommendations stemming from the Renfrew Inquest, which occurred in June this year after the 2015 triple homicide of three women, have become vital to the fight against intimate partner violence.
Lee took part in that inquest, the highest stakes she’s ever faced.
Lee said 93% of the over 3,000 crisis calls made to their organization last year came from residents of the county.
They served 460 women and children in 2021 and sheltered 63 of them for an average stay of 76 days.
