New numbers released yesterday shows that the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital is slightly below the average wait time for patients to be admitted to a hospital from an Emergency Room.
The provincial average is 22.9 hours for the month of October. That’s a record.
The Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital is sitting at 19.7 hours for its Smiths Falls location, and 19.5 hours in Perth. Brockville General, the largest hospital in our listening area aside from Ottawa, came in at 10.2 hours.
Average wait times for patients to see a doctor in Ontario’s Emergency Departments is 2.2 hours for the month of October. Again, that just to see a doctor and doesn’t include the hours to wait after that for treatment or test results.
The Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital comes in below that at 1.8 hours in Smiths Falls and just 1.3 hours in Perth. Brockville was 1.8 hours as well.
The average length of stay in an ER across the province is 4.8 hours.
Among the main reasons for the longer wait times are the surge in respiratory viruses and staffing shortages plaguing hospitals across the region.
