We continue our look at the recommendations made by the Culleton, Kuzyk & Warmerdam inquest into intimate partner violence (or IPV). Today we look at no. 18 which is the first to fall under the funding banner.
It says the province must recognize funding for all organizations providing IPV support services, will require a significant financial investment and commitment.
Interval House Executive Director Erin Lee says this will benefit groups such as hers greatly.
Lee adds that having new, consistent funding will reduce the pressure on organizations providing IPV support and allow them the comfort of knowing they can deliver support consistently thanks to an ongoing funding stream. She says this is the consistent support that groups like hers have been seeking.
Lee says its important to recognize that a new formula would allow anti-violence agencies and support services to commit to the layers needed to end IPV.
