Smiths Falls council looks set to enter an agreement with EVB Engineering to further progress the water tower and trunk watermain extension project.
The agreement surrounds the design construction preparation of the projects.
It’s been a long process to get to this point, Director of Public Works Paul McMunn explained.
Staff split the projects in half when they went out to tender but concluded both submitted bids by EVB Engineering were the preferred options, but not the cheapest.
Councillor Dawn Quinn applauded staff for looking at the quality of work they’d be getting over the cheapest route, which could cost more in the long run.
The contract set to be passed next week is worth a little over $244,000, with the bulk of the funding covered by a federal grant.
