A heads up for commuters in our listening area: an expected lengthy road closure has come into place after a gas leak triggered an explosion in east Ottawa this morning destroying several homes that were under construction.
Ottawa firefighters say they rescued one person from the wreckage who was stable, alert and talking.
The call went in to first responders shortly before 6:30 of a loud noise coming from a construction site.
Firefighters later confirmed a gas leak caused an explosion which took out multiple homes.
Paramedics assessed about eight people with minor injuries from the blast which occurred in Orleans, around Decoeur Drive and Wall Road, with Tenth Line Road being closed to traffic.
