We continue our look at each recommendation made by the Culleton, Kuzyk & Warmerdam inquest into ending intimate partner violence (or IPV) in Ontario.
Today we look at no. 23, the first recommendation under the Education and Training banner.
It speaks to developing and implement a new approach to public education campaigns to promote awareness about IPV, including finding opportunities to reach a wider audience in rural communities.
Interval House Executive Director Erin Lee says education campaigns are well established in our listening area.
Lee add they’re always looking to expand it, and that includes reaching teachers.
Lee says they are also looking at speaking with coaches, and others involved in athletics to make sure all involved know what to do if they’re involved in, or exposed to IPV in their lives. The goal is to spread the messaging far and wide.
The recommendation also says that rural residents must be able to identify themselves in the messaging and materials. That’s something the Lee says they focus on and look forward to expanding.
