A hot topic returned to Lanark County chambers last week when the electric versus gas debate returned.
This time it came as staff sought approval of a $1.4 million tender to fit three social housing units with natural gas heating.
A decision was made last year by the former council to move forward with it, but the newest crop of county councillors raised some concerns about the environmental impact.
Councillor Rob Rainer says this goes against what they’ve been saying from the get go.
Judy Brown said she understands the concerns, but time is of the essence for this project.
The majority of council voted in favour of awarding the near $1.4 million contract, funded through the province, as there was shared concern delaying this further would cause the lone bidder on their third round of RFP’s to run.
It’s set to pass at the next county council meeting.
