Mississippi Mills is hoping for a different outcome in their second attempt at securing provincial funding to replace the Almonte curling refrigeration plant.
Staff are trying again to secure $150,000 through the Ontario Trillium Foundation in order to replace the existing plant, in operation since the John Levi Community Centre opened its doors in 1989.
Their first application in 2021 was denied.
The intent is to only replace the plant in the short-term if the application is successful, but Mayor Christa Lowry told Lake 88 that more has to do with balancing the responsibilities of their recreational facilities rather than just the one.
Lowry says they still have some time on their side before a shutdown, but not much.
Lowry says the plant is at its end of life stage and they’re at the point now of hoping to squeeze another season or two out of it before really needing to upgrade.
