Upper Canada District School Board students across 14 schools are working to identify fallen Canadian soldiers from the Battle of Hill 70, which took place in the first world war.
Construction crews were building a new hospital last spring when they uncovered about 120 soliders in Loos-en-Gohelle, France.
It was in the fall last year the school board began collaborating with other groups to begin The Hill 70 Project: Lost. Found. Always Remembered.
About 1,300 Canadian soldiers remain missing from the battle, and UCDSB students are combing through service records to have key information pulled and entered into a national database of solider service files.
Students will also produce original biographies that will be shared with future projects in Eastern Ontario and France commemorating the service of Canadians during the First World War.
