The Smiths Falls Police Service are seeing more calls for intimate partner violence and mental health in 2023 than in 2022, a year which saw a big spike of its own.
Deputy Chief Jodi Empey presented their crime statistics from January to March 2023 during the recent police services board meeting.
Last year, IPV calls spiked 40%, with police responding to 170 calls compared to 120 in 2021.
Empey dissected the March 2023 figures a little further.
Since January, SFPS have attended 126 calls related to mental health with an average response time of 55 minutes.
That’s 5 minutes quicker than last year, when there were 73 mental health calls for service.
