Smiths Falls Fire Chief says quick response to old water treatment plant prevented the worst

The investigation continues into yesterday’s early-morning fire at the old water treatment plant in Smiths Falls which left a building gutted and destroyed.

Smiths Falls Fire Chief Rick Chesebrough says the response brought together fire departments in Smiths Falls, Perth and Montague Township.

He said the collaborative effort prevented another problem from happening.

There were no injuries responding to the blaze, and Chesebrough is asking that everyone stay clear of the former landmark. The investigation into how it started continues, and both the fire department and police are looking into it.
