A decision is looming for Smiths Falls council on what to do with the old water treatment plant which caught fire earlier this month.
Council heard from structural engineer Ryan Elliott from Simcoe-based G. Douglas Vallee Limited, who was at 25 Old Mills Road on Tuesday (May 23), which remains an active crime scene, to inspect the current state of the location and report back with potential options for council to consider.
Elliott provided a status update following the blaze.
Elliott told council the property is not at risk of collapsing on its own right now, but that will change over time.
Elliott said preservation is still an option.
It’s up to council to decide whether to invest time and money to restore the heritage building, or demolish it.
A final report from the engineer is expected to reach their chambers by June 24th.
