Martin Whyte is appealing the rejection of his zoning application by the Drummond/North Elmsley council, which sought to permit a commercial gun range in the township.
Council denied the application in April.
In a statement to the local media, Whyte asserted that the decision was “purely political.”
He referenced council’s decision to go against the report from town planner Brady McGlade, who recommended a deferral, to allow Whyte more time to resubmit various studies.
The proposed location of the commercial gun range, adjacent to Millar Brooke Farm on Rideau Ferry Road where the OPP used to conduct shooting activities, sparked significant opposition from the public.
Whyte is meeting with Reeve Steve Fournier Tuesday afternoon, and also announced plans to host an open house at the range this summer.
