Smiths Falls council will discuss and potentially decide as early as next week the fate of the old water treatment plant.
The heritage site caught fire in May causing significant damage and a decision for council, to demolish the plant or invest money to preserve the location.
Mayor Shawn Pankow says they’ll be getting cost estimates on either option shortly.
Smiths Falls Police turned the site over to the town after previously having a constable at the plant to watch the crime scene as an investigation into the cause continues.
The mayor says since taking control back from the SFPS, by-law officers make the rounds and fencing’s been installed to ensure no one can go inside.
He notes insurance has covered the additional costs incurred for the additional SFPS manpower and that additional overtime will not impact their municipal budget.
