After 36 years, Smiths Falls Police Services Chief Mark MacGillivray is retiring.
He made the announcement during Thursday morning’s Police Services Board meeting.
Starting as a patrol officer in 1987, MacGillivray advanced through the ranks throughout his illustrious career, and told the board he’s ready for the next chapter.
He says it’s his time to step away after nearly four decades of working for the community, and he’s confident the service will continue strong into the future after he retires.
MacGillivray will serve as chief until the end of this year, helping with the transfer of power to the next chief of police, who has not been named.
Jodi Empey currently serves as deputy chief.
