We continue our look at each recommendation made by the Culleton, Kuzyk & Warmerdam inquest into ending intimate partner violence (or IPV) in Ontario.
Today we look at number 40 which speaks to amending the Family Law Act, after speaking with stakeholders, survivors and IPV service providers, to provide authority to order counselling for perpetrators as identified by family court.
It is the first recommendation to fall under the intervention banner, and Lanark County Interval House Executive Director Erin Lee says the recommendation provides some optimism.
Lee says this would be mandated counciling, but could evolve.
