We continue our weekly look at every recomendation made to the province by the jury at the inquest into the deaths of Carol Culleton, Anastasia Kuzyk & Natalie Warmerdam, aimed at ending intimate partner violence (or IPV) in Ontario.
Number 45 says the province must establish policies making clear that, absent exceptional circumstances, those assessed as high risk or where the allegations involve strangulation should not qualify for early intervention. Crowns should also consider a history of IPV whether or not convictions resulted when determining whether early intervention is appropriate.
Lanark County Interval House Executive Director Erin Lee says basically the recommendation says the heinus act can not be forgiven.
Lee adds its important that people realize they are not talking about choking, but rather a controlling act.
