Saturday, September 9th is FASD Awareness Day across Canada.
Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder is caused by prenatal alcohol exposure of when a developing baby is exposed to alcohol.
The health unit’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Linna Li says it typically strikes early on in a pregnancy but all pregnant women should be careful.
Li says it’s a disorder that doesn’t have to exist.
The ninth day of the ninth month has been chosen to mark the day to reflect the nine months pregnant women should abstain from any alcohol use.
