Carleton Place High School Principal Casey Nelson addresses the UCDSB board during their September 13th meeting
The Upper Canada District School Board continues to look into adjusting school start times to better the sleep hygiene of its students and in turn, improve their academics.
The data points towards the benefits outweighing any potential drawbacks, says UCDSB Ron Ferguson.
It now comes down to the logistics of such a task, which requires extensive collaboration with other school boards and of course, the buses.
Carleton Place High School Principal Casey Nelson said the science supports the theory that a later start time equals more rested students, which in turn means they’re more attentive and then their academics improve.
And this is a chance to greatly enhance the lives of thousands of students.
The UCDSB passed a motion in support to swap start times of their secondary and elementary schools at a meeting in April.
