Smiths Falls council heard from Senior Planner Karl Grenke the latest on the forthcoming official plan in terms of themes and directions.
Staff have held internal meetings to identify the priorities for the official plan before they outsource for public opinion.
Revitalizing downtown, enhancing housing and sustainability, boosting and offering more community spaces as well as transportation are among the outlined goals.
Councilor Jennifer Miller says this is a major undertaking, because the future of Smiths Falls can be defined by the direction they go.
Staff’s also outlined six “opportunity areas” for growth in the town over the next 25 years. They’re potential development, redevelopment or rezoning lands council can work with how they see fit, such as adding housing or commercial properties.
