If you are listening to Lake 88 this weekend, it might have a different sound.
On Saturday, My Broadcasting Corporation will be running special programming, entitled ‘A Day to Listen’, to recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Executive Director with Plenty Canada, Larry McDermott, an Algonquin from Shabot Obaadjiwan First Nation, who also serves on numerous First Nations committees, tell us the day itself is about education. He cites the work being done by our local school boards as providing a good base.
Larry is also a member of the Community Safety and Well-Being Plan committee and says having Indigenous reconciliation as a significant part of that plan is vital.
From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow, guest hosts and listeners will speak about Indigenous identity through conversations about representation in sports and entertainment, the fusion of traditional and contemporary music, land protection and the impacts of climate change, and more.
