The public’s invited to join Smiths Falls mayor and council at Centennial Park Saturday as part of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Day.
The event begins with a walk to Duck Island by Indigenous drumming from Betty Lou Kempt of the Métis Nation. Once at Duck Island, smudging will be performed by Francine Desjardins followed by the Land Acknowledgement and opening remarks from Mayor Shawn Pankow.
There will then be remarks from members of the local Indigenous community about their own experiences around residential schools.
The walk begins at 7:15 tomorrow night.
