More information has come to light regarding the hidden camera which was uncovered at the Perth site of the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital last year.
A memo to staff reviewed by Lake 88 said the matter is now closed.
Last September, the camera was discovered in a cleaning supply room some members of staff used as a changing facility.
Made aware of the discovery by CUPE Local 2119, the hospital met with the union the following day and shared some footage from the camera, and an investigation began.
The investigation, which the OPP later confirmed they were taking part in, concluded the camera was placed by the hospital’s Manager of Environmental Services and Facilities, who was subsequently fired.
It’s unclear if criminal charges were sought or if they may be pursued in the future, however the memo states grievance settlements were reached between the hospital and CUPE.
A third-party inspection of both hospital sites determined there were no additional cameras.
The hospital created two gender-specific change rooms as a result accessible only by an access card, and they’re contemplating adding a third for non-binary employees.
When reached by Lake 88, representatives of the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital said the matter is closed and they will have no further comment.
