Mercy for Animals is a global organization with the goal to end industrial farming by constructing a sustainable food system.
The organization works closely with big-chain grocery stores, restaurants and companies to shore up their animal welfare practices, and call out the others that don’t.
Corporate Engagement Manager PJ Nyman says in his experience, there’s a laissez-faire approach a lot of companies take on the issue.
Lake 88 also asked Nyman why the well-being of the animals meat-eaters are going to consume anyways matters.
Nyman says their organization finds it to be more effective to work with companies rather than shift their efforts to lobbying for better industry standards, which they feel aren’t good enough.
Mercy For Animals released their Canada Animal Welfare Scorecard for the country’s largest companies.
