Changes have been made to the Smiths Falls Community Grant Program.
Organizations can apply for this stream of funding for future events or the betterment of the town. About $130,000 was committed last year to support these local services, and the town committees 1% of the tax level to fund the program.
This year staff have proposed that 1.25% of the tax levy be allocated to the program, to account for inflation and the general cost of living increases.
Councillor Jay Brennan wasn’t entirely sold on that idea.
Manager of Economic Development and Tourism Julia Crowder explained staff’s reasoning behind this when questioned by councillor Chris McGuire.
Council decided to table that conversation for a budget meeting, rather than preapprove the 1.25% allocation.
