Homelessness is a community problem. For that reason, Leeds β Grenville Director of Community and Social Services Alison Tutak says it requires a community solution.
Chronic homeless numbers top 100 countywide now. Tutak says local data identifies some of the issues driving homelessness.
Income is also a factor. Tutak says the current rates for social assistance and the Ontario Disability Support program are so low, itβs difficult for those struggling to find affordable housing.
A strategic initiative related to homelessness is in the works in Leeds β Grenville. Tutak says the United Counties region has reached the point of requirng what she calls β a thoughtful plan- to invest provincial funds to address and prevent homelessness.
