November is Radon Action and Lung Cancer Awareness Month.
Leeds Grenville & Lanark District Health Unit Medical Officer of Health Dr. Linna Li says they’re using the opportunity to talk about how the two are related.
Radon is a gas that is released as uranium breaks down in soil or rock. The highest levels of radon in homes occur in the cooler months as we seal up our homes for the winter.
Li says radon exposure is the second highest cause of lung cancer in Ontario and the risk gets higher if you’re a smoker.
You can contact the health unit to get a test kit to find out how your home fares.
