Another step has been taken to bring in foreign workers to address the staffing shortages at Lanark lodge.
The county’s community services committee voted to hire Allison Jones Consulting Services to recruit up to 15 internationally trained healthcare workers.
The motion remains subject for approval at a future county council meeting.
The Lodge’s Executive Director Carey Duncan said existing full or part time staff would not lose hours if the recruitment efforts are successful because the hours these new faces would fill already exist.
The process could cost the county $60,000.
Local recruitment efforts continue regardless, including a recent job fair that Duncan called a big success with over 50 applications submitted to the Lodge and their partners.
One drawback from perspective employees she heard about was transportation concerns.
Duncan approached council with the idea last month.
