Jury recommendation no. 58 from the inquest into ending IPV in Ontario says Onatrio must review the mandatory charging framework, to assess its effect on IPV rates and re-offenders, with particular attention to unintended negative consequences.
Lanark County Interval House Executive Director Erin Lee says mandatory charging comes after a quick assessment by officers on scene, determining who is the offender in a situation.
She adds that the process needs to be reworked.
She says cases like that are up and down in numbers in our region. A review of the sytem could end them alltogether.
