A federal grant has facilitated the installation of two new flag poles at the Mississippi Mills office on Old Perth Road.
Town Clerk Jeanne Harfield guided discussion during the December 12th Committee of the Whole meeting, as elected representatives debated an amendment to determine the flags that should or could be displayed on both the new Indigenous and community flag poles.
Harfield has been working with the Indigenous Bicentennial Committee which is leaning towards a customized flag displaying a local wampum belt on a blue field.
Other options include the hybridized Canada and Native insignia flag, and Every Child Matters.
The revised Flag Policy came before council at its special session last week.
