The Ontario Health Coalition and the Auditor General both recently released reports showing the number of closures of emergency departments and of services within our hospitals this past year.
In response, three major hospital unions are demanding the Ford government come to the bargaining table.
President of the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions and First Vice-president of CUPE Ontario Michael Hurley says there’s a large number of people waiting for operations and procedures, and over 12,000 people are waiting on stretchers unable to get beds on any given day.
That leads Hurley to the opinion that the current plan doesn’t cut it.
The unions are requesting the government add 8,000 beds over four years and to invest $1.25 billion in each of the next five years.
