Winter Preparedness should be on everyone’s mind given the recent weather.
The County of Lanark suggests you should keep an Emergency Preparedness Kit that includes items like a flashlight, water and non-perishable food to last for at least three (3) days.
Weather-Proof Your Home by trimming branches hanging over your house or vehicle so they don’t cause damage if they get weighed down with snow and ice.
Shut off your outdoor water or insulate outdoor pipes to prevent freezing. Have your chimney inspected and cleaned to ensure it’s not a fire hazard.
Test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to make sure they are in good working order.
Seal your windows and doors to prevent drafts and stock up on salt to prevent outdoor falls.
As to your vehicle, get a maintenance checkup; keep your fuel tank at least half full to help reduce moisture in the fuel system, make sure you have an ice-scraper and washer fluid that works down to -40C.
Put together a winter kit to keep in your vehicle that includes a blanket, warm clothing like gloves, hats and sweaters, a phone charger, candles, a shovel, jumper cables and water.
