Smiths Falls council’s invited groups who’ve requested $10,000 or more of a Community Grant in 2024 to plead their case Monday at a special committee of the whole meeting.
In recent years town staff created a formula to dictate which organizations should receive funding in order to take political or personal preference out of decision-making.
But there’s still kinks to work out with the policy, Mayor Shawn Pankow points out.
This year the town received 38 total applications worth $383,000 after receiving eight submissions in each of the past two years. Council’s committed to at least $179,000 for 2024.
31 applicants were eligible and of those, 13 requested at least $10,000. All 13 will be invited to plead their case in a delegation Monday.
