The County of Lanark’s passed along their support of the Town of Midland’s call to send a letter to the federal and provincial governments asking for “meaningful improvements” to the legal justice system.
Often referred to as a “catch and release,” system, frustration has grown in recent years over high-risk individuals being granted bail and re-offending while out on bond.
It’s an issue far too common in our communities, says councillor Jeff Carroll.
Councillor Peter McLaren saying it’s an all too common occurrence seeing repeat offenders out on the streets.
The resolution the county’s supporting in part says police are “exhausting resources having to manage the repeated arrests of the same offenders, and law-abiding citizens are paying the financial and emotional toll of this broken system.”
