The bodies of two people who were reported missing on Charleston Lake after falling through the ice on Sunday have found.
Yesterday afternoon at about 4:00 p.m., members of Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, the Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, and Aviation Services located and recovered the remains of the two men from the lake.
They were confirmed to be the two missing individuals. Names have not been released.
Police say they were hiking with a third person in the area at the time of the incident. The third person managed to pull themselves out of the water and called for help.
In a statement the OPP said, “Our thoughts go out to the families of those involved in this tragedy. We ask media and the public to respect the family’s privacy.”
Remember, no ice is safe ice.
