Smiths Falls council heard an update on the merger conversations among the three area health units.
Medical Officer of Health of the Leeds, Grenville Lanark District Health Unit Dr. Linna Li presented to the town Monday night.
The merger would involve the nearby health units of Kingston Frontenac Lennox and Addington, as well as Hastings – Prince Edward.
Li says they’ve worked together before.
A provincially-funded feasibility study is near completion, with a vote to come by the end of the month on whether to pursue a merger.
If so, they’ll then submit a business plan to the province in April, which would make the funding available for full implementation sometime in 2026.
