A serious injury occurred on February 27th following a check from behind during a playoff game between the Athens Aeros and Smiths Falls Jr. Bears.
19-year-old Aeros defenceman Mac Spinelli collided into the boards following a hit and according to the team, fractured two vertebrae in his neck and suffered a concussion.
myFM asked Jr. Bears head coach JB Ryan for his point of view of the play from the opposing bench, and how the player who made the hit was holding up.
Ryan knows Spinelli from prior seasons, and spoke highly of him and his family.
myFM reached out to the Aeros organization for comment last week, but did not receive a response in time prior to publication of this article.
We will have more on Spinelli later this week.
