March is Nutrition Month, something the Leeds Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit is proud to celebrate.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Linna Li says so much of what they do as an organization hinges on a variety of expertise and professionals walking their halls.
That can include, but is not limited to, a focus on equitable access to food, and food insecurity; Providing information on the cost of nutritious food relative to income and other living expenses, such as housing.
Registered Dietician Danielle Labonte tells myFM that professionals in her line of work give credible information and encourage healthy food choices that promote health and prevent chronic disease.
A big part of the work she does is supporting all elementary and secondary schools by providing consultations on teaching about food and nutrition, and creating a positive school food environment.
Dana Douglas, also a Registered Dietician with the health unit works with families and kids up to age 6. She says they use the most current and credible scientific evidence to come up with recommendations.
