Today is National Caregiver Day.
PEP’s Suzanne Rintoul spoke to us about the occasion on behalf of the Lived Experience Advisory Network of the Lanark Leeds and Grenville Ontario Health Team.
They could be helping someone with diminishing physical abilities, a debilitating cognitive condition, or a chronic life-limiting illness.
Rintoul says they spend a lot of time providing care.
Ands many have jobs too. One in three people in the Canadian workforce is a caregiver in addition to their regular jobs.
The Ontario Health Team is doing its best to get the word out.
She says that formal recognition is crucial too.
There will be a virtual kindness for caregivers event today to celebrate the work they do. If you know a caregiver you can always reach out and do domething like give them a few hours to themselves or another act of kindness.
