Tax season is here and many of us are waiting for our returns.
All listeners of 88.1 myFM are being reminded to remain vigilant against scam phone calls impersonating the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
These fraudulent calls often prey on unsuspecting individuals, demanding immediate payment of alleged tax debts or threatening legal action.
To protect yourself, remember these crucial tips:
- Verify Caller Identity: The CRA will never call to demand immediate payment or threaten legal action. If unsure, hang up and call the CRA directly using the official contact information listed on their website.
- Guard Personal Information: Never provide personal or financial information over the phone, especially in response to unsolicited calls. Legitimate organizations will not ask for sensitive details like social insurance numbers or banking information over the phone.
- Stay Informed: Keep up-to-date with the latest scams circulating in your area through local news sources or community bulletins.
By staying informed and cautious, seniors and myFM listeners can protect themselves from falling victim to these deceitful schemes during tax season.
