Concerned residents are hosting a town hall information session to address Health Canada’s coming changes to the existing natural health product regulations.
It’s being hosted by Dave Shostal and Steph Drummond.
Shostal explained exactly what was added to last year’s budget that has raised concerns.
Shostal says if it’s enacted, costs and accessibility will go up making the products harder to obtain for many who need them.
The products are very common too. Everything from children’s vitamins, to one-a-day vitamins, supplements, and even protein powders – main stream additions that help keep so many of us healthy.
The Open House takes place tonight (Thursday, April 18) at the Perth Lions’ Hall at the Fairgrounds.
Shostal says Guest speaker Conservative MP Blaine Calkins has sponsored a bill dealing with the proposed regulations.
Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston MP Scott Reid is also attending and will speak to the issue.
Shostal says a main goal of the open house is to inform, because many may not even know these staples in the daily health regiment are the focus of new regulations.
A petition to the House of Commons will also be circulated at the open house asking Members of Parliament to vote in support of Calkins’ Bill C-368 on Second and Third Readings.
The meeting is free to attend. Doors open at 5:30, then the speakers begin at 6. Again, it’s at the Perth Lions’ Club at the Fairgrounds.
