The Smiths Falls Bears evened the Bogart Cup Finals at one game apiece with a 4-3 overtime victory over the Navan Grads in Game 2 at the SFMCC Sunday evening.
Matthew Dimaline potted his second of the playoffs 3:43 into the extra frame to notch the first win of the series for the Bears, after losing 3-2 in overtime Friday night.
The Bears jumped out to a 1-0 lead after Travis Ouellette’s sixth goal of the postseason in the first period, but a Nicholas Paone equalizer just over two minutes later made it a 1-1 game.
It stayed that way until late in the second period when Shamus Stevenson beat Jaeden Nelson on the powerplay at 17:15, but the second lead of the night for the Bears was short-lived like the first. Colin MacDougall got the puck passed Dawson Labre 57 seconds later leading to a 2-2 game after forty minutes.
In the third, Shaan Kingwell gave the Grads their first lead of the night just 90 seconds in with his fourth of the playoffs, but a Kyle Dagg marker midway through the frame evened things up and eventually set the stage for Dimaline’s OT winner.
Nelson made 42 saves in the loss, while Labre turned aside 26 shots.
Game 3 goes Wednesday night in Navan before the series returns to Smiths Falls Friday for Game 4.
