The National Day of Mourning is this Sunday. In 1984, the Canadian Labour Congress established April 28th as the National Day of Mourning in Canada to remember and honour those who have died, been injured or suffered illness in the workplace.
Ike Doornekamp is hosting two ceremonies locally. He tells us that it’s marked across the country.
The service in Perth begins at noon in a familiar spot.
Later that evening, the gathering in Smiths Falls will get underway at 6:30.
Doornekamp says guest speakers from the Canadian Labour Congress will be on site, flowers will be laid, and a minute of silence will be observed at both locations, as part of the important observances.
