Here’s what’s going on:
The Perth Festival of the Maples kicks off this morning with a Pancake Breakfast from 8:30 until 10:30 at the Perth Legion, 26 Beckwith Street. Eleven area maple syrup producers will offer their ‘spoils of the maple season’ along with over 170 other vendors and artisans from 9am til 4 along Gore and Foster Streets. Something for everyone!
The Tay Basin features the children amusements area, the Kids’ Firefighter Obstacle Course, a petting zoo, pony rides and Safety Square exhibits. Check out the Classic and Antique Car Display at Herriott and Gore Street.
Motorists are reminded of the following road closures and parking restrictions during the festival. There will be no parking:
-on Gore Street between North Street and Craig Street
-on Foster Street from Drummond to Wilson Street
-on Herriott Street from Drummond to the Wilson Street intersection
-and in Tay Basin.
Any vehicles in those areas will be towed. Those roads will be closed for the festival until 5:30pm Saturday afternoon.
There’s live music from 10am until 4pm on the Main Stage at Herriott and Gore. At 12:30pm, the ‘wood chips will fly’ at Annual Maplefest ‘Wood Cookie Challenge’, where teams compete in the ‘Cross-Cut Saw’ and ‘Sap-Tapping’ Competitions. Details at: festival of the maples.com
Visitors to this year’s Festival are also reminded that crowded streets downtown might not be the best place to walk your dog this Saturday. Organizers are asking dog owners to consider leaving their pets at home for the safety of everyone concerned.
